Outsourcing: Be Careful What You Wish For

A lot has been made regarding the decision by the U.S. Olympic Committee to have designer Ralph Lauren outfit the U.S. Team at this summer's London Olympics. This in turn, has sparked a major controversy because the uniforms are being manufactured in China. (Even more galling, is that the preppy white slacks and double breasted dark blue blazers make every American athlete look like a spoiled rich kid. To make matters worse, the uniforms are topped off with a French beret! Everybody looks like a dork in a beret.)

Now of course, we have the usual moral outrage from both sides of the political aisle. From Harry Reid to Donald Trump, many are calling for the uniforms to be burned in the public square (Isn't it amazing how sports can bring people closer together.). It's downright un-American for China to be making Team U.S.A.'s unies. How can this be?

What this controversy really highlights is one of the bogus central themes being pushed by the Obama re-election campaign; Outsourcing. Let's get this straight, the U.S. Olympic Committee is a private enterprise which receives no tax dollars; therefore, if they could get the uniforms manufactured in China at a cheaper price, then why not? Only a government run entity would pay more.

We've heard a lot of talk lately about outsourcing, job creation, Bain Capital and Mitt Romney. Do you remember when people were calling for free trade agreements, open boarders, and one world order? This is but one result. You see, once you open up the world to "free" trade, the U.S. worker cannot compete against the rest of the world's cheap labor pool. It's economics, Stupid! Don't you just love when a Politician, regardless of party affiliation, promises that they are going to bring jobs and manufacturing back to the U.S. They are telling us one big fat LIE people, they are not coming back! The U.S. with its high labor costs and burdensome labor union contracts just can't compete with China's forced slave labor fueled economy.

Outsourcing is just an economic reality, pure and simple. If it wasn't for outsourcing, you would be paying a lot more for all the products that you buy. Remember when that 42" flat screen TV cost you $5,000? Now it's on sale at your local Wal-Mart for $249.00. You can thank outsourcing for that. The same progressives who advocated "free" trade are now the same ones vilifying Mitt Romney for outsourcing jobs overseas. Give me a break!

So next time you're sitting on your couch, watching your huge flat screen TV (both of which were manufactured in China) and you hear a negative campaign ad on CNN talking about the evils of outsourcing, be thankful and enjoy America, because while outsourcing may be terrible for the American worker, it's awesome for the American consumer.
